Goodbye New Braunfels! Hello Bluebell!

Today we left New Braunfels. Yesterday was a busy day of packing up and cleaning up. Today, we're on the road again!

It was a beautiful sunrise. The picture doesn't do it justice.

We caught the Bluebell Factory in Brenham on our way out of town. We were going to visit on our way to Houston for Thanksgiving but we enjoyed Austin a little too long for that.

I don't get it. I think it's weird. But I am slightly amused. :-)

Their first ice cream delivery truck.

The Texas Flag in Flowers. Texas pride is real and strong!

This flavor sounds delish! I want to try it!

So, it turns out there's a baseball museum on the first floor of the Bluebell Factory. It includes the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and features a number of players from Brenham and other locations around Texas.

It's only a dollar a scoop at the factory. Um, yes please!

There were no photographs allowed from the observation deck, but it was fun to watch them at work! Three flavors were being made: Homemade vanilla (they make some of this every day), Cookie Two Step, and Birthday Cake. They have the capacity to produce 12 flavors at a time!

After having Bluebell for Breakfast, we continued on toward Louisiana.

We also wanted to try Torchies Tacos, which we'd heard recommended multiple times. We were going to try it in Houston but when we arrived, we had two sleepers and wanted to go quickly. I went in with the older three kids while Bonnie stayed in the car with the sleepers, but we judged the tacos too messy to try and bring in the car. They looked delicious though! We'll have to try again next year, when we hope to be in or near Texas again.

This sign was outside a shop near Torchie's Tacos. I loved it!!

And then we made it to Louisiana!

In fact, we made it most of the way across the state. We stopped at one point in Lafayette to go by a science museum that was free thanks to our Thanksgiving Point passes. However, we arrived only 30 minutes before they closed. Still, we had a good time and know we definitely want to go back if we get the chance.

We stopped for the night at a hotel, just passed halfway through our trip!

  1. I forgot about the singing cow named Belle. Fortunately there's a YouTube to confirm the melody in my head once you had reminded me of her. Makes me think of Aly Cerny. We used to imitate the commercial.
