School Day

Today was what we're used to as a routine school day. Some Geography class and math class. Bonnie would do way better at giving details here, but I don't think writing the blog holds much interest to her, so I'll give it a go.

Math class went on its own trail today! After budget class, Noel asked what "this symbol is," pointing to ÷. I told her and she asked how it work. I gave a brief example saying "if you had 8 candies and four people to split them between, how many would each person get?" She figured it out and I said "that's division-- 8 divided by 4 is 2, so 8 candies divided between 4 people means 2 candies per person." Somehow that kicked off an exploration of division for the day and Bonnie ran with it. All I know is that Halloween candy was being shared all around during math class!

For geography, the kids often watch and sing the Anamaniacs song of the Fifty U.S. States and their capitols, along with another song listing the 50 states with a map. They've been doing this for a while and the kids are getting pretty familiar with where states are and their outline shapes. When we see a foreign-to-the-state-we're-in license plate, the kids call it out and name the capitol city. Fun stuff like.

While they did school, I did some reading, some work on Fan the Flame, and gathered suggestions for and researched field trip ideas.

loooove getting to be outside on the beautiful back deck here!

Found a friend. The kids thought it was super interesting and we talked about camouflage a bit.

Did I mention Bluebell? Cuz if not, just gotta make sure we do.

Mini golfing at WurstFest

Also at WurstFest, well at Landa Park and open for free during WurstFest, was this great mini golf course! We realized it too late yesterday so decided to come back. Unfortunately, Amy wasn't feeling so well and didn't come with us.

  2. I liked it most, others didn't as much. The green frosting in it was a bit much, but the cookie pieces were delish!
